“Creating a positive visitor experience while meeting the needs of the community”
Community-based Tourism for Conservation and Development
Welcome to Muang Keud Village!
Muang Keud Village is located in the Gued Chang sub-district, Mae Tang district, and is 64 kilometers from Chiang Mai. The village has a population of 1,519 people and is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges. The Mae Tang River also flows through this village, an ideal location for many tourists. The village is also home to the Muser hill tribe.
Our Community-based Tourism project is owned and operated by the villagers. All the benefits will go directly to the community. Your participation will give the villagers opportunities for productive employment, skills development, and reducing poverty. Many of our project activities focus around conservation of natural resources and preservation of culture. We want to make Muang Keud village an ecotourism destination.
When visiting our village, our goal is to give you an authentic and quality experience. We have the time and the local resources to provide you with this experience. The villagers are motivated and want to improve the quality of tourism in the village. We currently offer the following activities:
- Trekking in community forest:
o We have three different trails for you to choose from. The trails take 1-2 hours, 2-4 hours, and 4-6 hours to walk on respectively. Our trails have stunning views and our local guides are very friendly and knowledgeable.
o This is one of the highlights of our program. You get to stay overnight with a Thai host family in Muang Keud village. Here you will learn Thai culture at a personal and local level; learn how Thai people spend their time; interact with other villagers, and visit different places in the village.
o Subsistence agriculture is the main occupation of the villagers. Here, you will take part in the daily working activities of the villagers. You can work on the rice field; learn about the different farming methods that Thai people use; collect fruits from an orchard; plant trees; grow vegetables; raise chickens; or simply “hang out” with the villagers.
o The activities we have included under cultural are dancing, cooking, traditional music, Thai massage, Buddhism, and History. All of our activities will be run by the villagers. For example, the dancing and playing traditional music will be performed by local groups in the village. Buddhism and History can be studied at the temple with the monks or village historian.
o Our village is an ideal location for rafting. Raft down Mae Tang River with our local rafting guides.
